Venice

The capital of the Veneto region of Italy, Venice is renowned as one of the most romantic holiday destinations in the world. The city is built on many small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon between the mouths of the River Po and the River Piave in North Eastern Italy.

St Mark's Square

The 'Piazza San Marco' is the main square of Venice referred to by Napolean as the 'Drawing Room of Europe' and is the first place most holiday makers wish to visit. These days however it has become as much renowned for the price of its coffee as much as it's romanticism. The square is overlooked by the Basilica di San Marco and its detached campanile.

Rialto Bridge

Spanning the Grand Canal the 'Ponte di Rialto' is the most famous bridge in the city of Venice and most holiday visitors to the city see it as a major attraction.

Canals

Venice is world-famous for its canals. Transportation for all visitors and holiday makers within the city remains, as it was in centuries past, entirely on water or on foot, making Venice Europe's largest urban carfree area, helping to make it the peaceful holiday destination that it is today. The classic method of navigatingthe waterways is by gondola, although this is now as much of a tourist attraction as it is a practicle method of transport for the locals. Most Venetians now use water buses, called vaporetti, in Italy which run along regular routes throughout the city of Venice.
